Taking your dog to France via Eurotunnel (LeShuttle) from Folkestone to Calais is one of the fastest and most popular routes to continental Europe. However, passing through the Eurotunnel Pet Reception requires precise documentation checks and compliance with strict GOV.UK regulations.
1 The Pet Reception at Folkestone
Before proceeding to the main vehicle check-in lanes, all drivers traveling with pets must stop at the Eurotunnel Pet Reception terminal.
Do not go straight to the standard self-service lanes. Eurotunnel staff will scan your dog's 15-digit microchip and thoroughly inspect your Animal Health Certificate (AHC).
2 The 10-Day Signing Window
Your Animal Health Certificate is valid for EU entry for 10 days from the date of issue. Plan the AHC issue date so that your Eurotunnel journey and EU entry fall within this 10-day window.
3 Return Tapeworm Treatment Reminder
Remember that before returning to Great Britain from France via Eurotunnel, your dog must receive the required tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours (1 to 5 days) before entering Great Britain.
